Though its not uncommon having sleepless nights but yesterday was special. With bag leak, I had throat pain as well, which kept me awake till 4:45 AM.
Family also had to go through the same throat pain and fever which my son recently brought from School. Anyways, I turned on AC, increasing the temperature and went to sleep with blanket on.
Woke-up at around 8-15AM as my wife was running here and there getting ready for office.
After gulping milk (which m not supposed to), got ready for my another work from home.
Unlike many, I do love my job. Being a Software developer makes me feel good that it gives me an edge to think logically. With my recent web project went live, it is an another day to keep an eye on the data flow and if the business logic is working fine as it impacts the decision making of operations.
There was something else which has been going on for some time. My system brings data from Global database and then based on many events, triggers are activated. Overall data flow take around 15-20 mins, but this is something I didnt like. I wanted to optimise it. I was planning to use Lock table while fetching data, but still I something else was going on in my mind.
Couple of months back when I was taking an interview, I randomly asking the SQL Syntax execution flow, and it had been there in my mind. So the idea was to reduce the number of where clause while importing the data from Global database. Guess what, it worked. Now my SQL query takes on 9-10 seconds. Once the data is imported to a temp table, from there I used SQL Merge statement based on match condition.
Most of the day went in SQL Query creation, but by afternoon I started feeling tired as I was still recovering from fever. I took some time to rest and went back to complete the task.
Another automation process that I had in my basket was to trigger aa email from one of the system based on some criteria and then attach excel file with the data. This can achieved easily with email profile from sql server, but I want to check if this can be done with the help of existing system. This item is still open but I already have couple of solutions in mind.
Day went on like it. By 6:15PM, I thought to start learning Statistics and make script for my YouTube channel www.YouTube.com/@The.Data.Scientist, but my body asked for one more day of break.
And then I got call from my nurse if the surgery is still in plan as the hospital customer case created some confusion. Everything is in plan and I am supposed to be admitted on 15May mid night and then will be fasting for the surgery.
